Musicares to sponsor “Under the Influence” Festival in 2015
Luke George, who is the son of Little Feat Founder Lowell George, has initiated a Tribute CD that will feature Blues Traveler, Gregg Allman, the Foo Fighter’s Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins (Foo Fighters and Jane’s Addiction), Derek Trucks, Tom Cochrane, Warren Haynes, Jim Keltner, John Hiatt, Shawn Pander, and Nelo, among others.
“We are in the works for creating a large scale festival that will be held in Austin, Texas and two other possible locations with and for Musicares. The festival will be called ‘Under The Influence,’ and is reference to how many musicians were actually influenced by Lowell who now influence our current artists. We are looking at this as a model for an annual event with Musicares and another large music-based company in Austin,” said George.
He added, “It all started with a lightning bolt of an idea that when it came to me, I couldn’t write it down fast enough two years ago. It started with the song called “Doraville,” which is a previously unreleased Lowell George song that my circle of friends and studio partners put together that will be released on the album as well. The project has snowballed since then and now includes Blues Traveler doing “Dixie Chicken,” and from there it cemented a relationship with Gregg Allman, Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks.”
George continued by saying that it was all due to his networking with people in the music industry, and he’s very grateful “to have an introduction to Ross Hogarth who is a producer who works in and around the industry with people like David Lindley and Warren Haynes, who is now my ‘brother from another mother.’ The two of us have cemented a relationship with Musicares and Scott Goldman.”
